Could dyslexia explain why reading and spelling are so difficult for your child?

When your child continues to struggle despite practice and extra help, knowing what to do next can feel overwhelming. Reading Success Academy’s dyslexia assessment package helps you better understand your child’s learning needs and move forward with a clear plan.

Using the Tests of Dyslexia–Comprehensive (TOD-C) from Western Psychological Services (WPS), we examine reading, spelling, and related processing skills to identify patterns consistent with dyslexia. You receive a written explanation of the findings, personalized recommendations, and a private meeting to discuss what the results mean for your child.

What’s Included

Approximately three hours of individual testing Your child works one-on-one with a trained RSA assessment provider in a supportive online setting. Testing may be divided into shorter appointments to support attention and reduce fatigue. Actual testing time varies by student.

A written explanation of results Receive an understandable summary of your child’s performance, including areas of strength, skills needing support, and findings related to the likelihood of dyslexia.

Personalized recommendations Receive practical next steps based on your child’s results. Recommendations may include instructional priorities, reading and spelling interventions, home practice strategies, and further evaluation when appropriate.

A 30-minute parent results meeting Meet privately with an RSA assessment provider to review the findings, ask questions, and discuss how to use the recommendations at home and when planning educational support.

What Does the Assessment Examine?

Depending on the tests selected for your child, the assessment examines skills such as:

Reading words accurately and efficiently
Decoding unfamiliar words
Spelling and recognizing written word patterns
Recognizing and working with the sounds in spoken words
Rapidly naming familiar symbols
Holding and working with spoken information
Reading fluency and comprehension

Together, these results help build a clearer picture of why reading and spelling may be difficult and which skills should receive targeted support.

Who Is This For?

This service is intended for students in first grade and above, ages 6 and older, who have persistent reading or spelling difficulties or whose families suspect dyslexia.

It may be especially helpful when your child struggles to sound out unfamiliar words, reads slowly or inaccurately, has ongoing spelling difficulties, or makes limited progress despite additional reading support.

Before Testing

Parents will be asked to provide information about their child’s educational history, reading concerns, and any previous assessments.

If your child has testing accommodations listed in an IEP or Section 504 plan, please provide that information to the RSA administrator before the first testing appointment. RSA will review the requested accommodations and discuss which supports can be used while maintaining standardized testing requirements.

Students need a reliable internet connection, a computer with a camera and microphone, and a quiet testing space. Additional setup instructions will be provided before the appointment.

Understanding the Scope of This Service
